anyone think that the lunar starship might have a expendable nose faring like the falcons to reduce weight and put an easy place for an orbital docking hatch, no need for aerodynamics on the moon and it wont have any fins so maybe also falcon 9 type landing legs???

A lot of knowledge of SpaceX and it's future endeavors on this channel. Just wish they would lay off the second guessing of NASA's space program in the past. Wasn't the NASA shuttles the only reusable carriers in the world for over 3 decades? Call it hindsight 20/20 or Monday morning quarterbacks but saying NASA didn't do enough to advance space exploration is just bonkers.

Thanks gang; we're up to date. Regarding symmetry of thrust, it is imperative during the landing cycle. Consider the crane lifting starship; if 2 or 3 of the ties are not there on one side of the nose (asymmetric) then the rocket is going to find its own centre of mass and lean to one side accordingly. For takeoff, invariably three motors are used which are symmetric. As altitude is reached, a motor is cut, the remaining 2 gimbal to compensate, but the thrust line is now off axis, so the craft is crabbing in response. This is noticeable in the footage of each of the test flights where starship curves in its path until the flip manoeuver takes over. The ideal motor setup is to have one central, then a ring of 4 or 6, where any pair of diametrically opposite motors ensure symmetry along the thrust line/ centre of mass. Hopper had one central engine, landing perfectly square. Falcon uses symmetrical motors and lands perfectly plumb. Bezos uses one engine & lands square. I'm sure Elon should be realizing this by now. Anyway, great job in covering the event. Always a great start to the day.

Mars is plenty big enough for NASA to still do their science as well as others to land their ships like Starship or the Chinese. Do you really think that the Chinese government is going to as NASA for permission to land on Mars? NO F-in way! NASA better get their heads out of the sand and wakeup.
Malus DarkbladePred 6 urami
Space contracts and military contract, the most corrupt parts if the US. These are also the most wasteful, inefficient least cost effective parts of our industry; because the government and the private sectors are now one. Boeing, Lockheed et al are exclusively given contracts that are the playthings and wet dreams of NASA programme heads or military generals. There is no ecosystem of contractors they are monopolies after many decades of consolidation via mergers and acquisitions. This has left the us stranded with no alternatives....well until SpaceX comes along and pisses on the entire political gravy train. Everyone know and see that SpaceX has done more for space flight than the corrupted edifices have managed to do since the moon missions in the 60's.....that is fuckung 60yrs.....60 fuckung yrs. Who has been standing up for the US tax payer. Waste upon waste up on waste. SpaceX might as well start bidding for military contracts or just buy Lockheed, Boeing maybe a bit big to swallow. Duck Boeing and Lockheed and their workers, they can start working at spaceX and actually get something done.
When you see people standing next to that thing it just makes it even crazier that that thing does a fricking flip and lands It truly looks like something from a movie and functions even cooler!!!
